Definition:
Mission College is seeking a talented educator to fill the temporary, one-year, full-time faculty position as an Instructional Design Instructor, or “Instructional Designer”.

Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction, the Instructional Designer will provide instructional design services for faculty to support high-quality online and technology-mediated instruction. In addition to developing effective, engaging, and accessible instructional resources such as video tutorials, webinars, and workshops, the Instructional Designer will serve as the primary resource for academic applications of technology and development of online course content. The Instructional Designer will also develop and implement training programs to promote understanding of technology-mediated learning for staff and students, as needed. In addition, the Instructional Designer will stay up-to-date with current pedagogical and technical trends in online education to provide training and assistance to keep the College current with these technologies. We are seeking applicants who have a deep knowledge of Instructional Design/UX principles, best practices in online teaching and learning, and extensive online teaching and course development experience.

Assignment:
This is a full-time, temporary position for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. This is a non-tenure track position. Academic assignments may include day and/or evening classes, Monday through Saturday, as needed. This position is represented by the West Valley-Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554).

Salary and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range:

  • $64,631 to $100,582 annually, based upon academic achievement, teaching and related experience (Academic Salary Schedule, Steps 1-9).

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education - Possess one of the following:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design/technology or educational technology; OR
  • The equivalent of the above.

AND

2. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic duties and assignments may consist of one or more of the following:

  • Submit, when due, all necessary reports, such as attendance, rosters, class and office schedules.
  • Post and maintain office hours each week.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources.
  • Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members’ area of expertise.
  • Assume institutional responsibilities, essential to the ongoing operation and effective achievement of department, division, college and district programs.

In addition, the incumbent will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement effective online education training and teaching materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in the design and development of course content including the integration of media technologies into traditional courses
  • Attend and participate in the work of the College’s Distance Learning Committee.
  • Develop and deliver workshops on online course development and concepts of online course delivery
  • Create and publish user documentation, including web resources for supported technology tools and software
  • Assist with the implementation of various college, district, and statewide initiatives
  • Assist faculty with understanding and complying with accessibility requirements for online courses, face to face courses, and related digital learning content
  • Maintain, train, and update best practices in area of Instructional Design
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection, testing and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies and services that empower faculty and enhance teaching/learning experiences and student services
  • Participate in the preparation and composition of status reports for ongoing projects
  • Engage in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity
  • Participate in the review of curriculum as needed.
  • Participate in departmental, division, and campus professional activities/committees
  • Participate in the College’s learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
  • Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
