Job Description:
The Department of Sociology invites applications for one tenure-track position beginning Fall 2020 at the Assistant Professor level. We are recruiting in the areas of demography and statistical methods. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in social demography or population and environment and with teaching interests, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in social statistics – candidates who are interested in such teaching should identify this in their application. We are seeking talented applicants qualified for an assistant professor position. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration.

The Department of Sociology has over 30 faculty, more than 400 undergraduate majors, and about 80 doctoral students. US News & World Report recently ranked the department thirteenth and sixth in specialties of Population and Sex and Gender, respectively. We place special emphasis on research excellence, high-quality teaching, and active faculty-student interaction. We share a fundamental commitment to teach, support and attract a diverse student body. The department has a strong Ph.D. program, and candidates should be interested in making significant contributions to that program. Candidates should be eager to join an intellectually lively, diverse, growing department.

Required qualifications:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in sociology or a closely related field and a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank at a research-intensive university.

Application Instructions:
Applications received by September 1, 2019 will receive full consideration. Applications should include a CV, letter of application, publications or samples of written work, and contact information for three references. In addition to the materials noted above, applicants should also submit a one-page diversity statement that discusses past or future contributions to inclusive excellence in the areas of research, teaching and/or outreach.
