General Summary

The Senior Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing and executing a comprehensive major gift plan for the College of Liberal Arts & Social Science (LAS). She/he will also supervise the activities of staff assigned to CMN and CHS and support the philanthropic priorities of the University. The Senior Director's primary charge is to focus on identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors. In addition to fundraising goals, she/he will b responsible for meeting specific process targets designed to assure a disciplined approach to building a successful major gift program. The successful candidate will work as a team leader in building visibility and support while enlarging the number of future major gift donors to DePaul University.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Directs the identification, qualification, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of major gifts prospects/donors for LAS, as well as other philanthropic initiatives of the University.
  • Ensures that, over time, these areas have a sufficient number of qualified major gift prospects to achieve established goals.
  • Supervises the development staff working with the College of Communication and College of Science & Health in the cultivation and solicitation of planned gifts, and provides access to resources to develop well rounded gift strategies.
  • In partnership with the Dean(s), develops annual and long-range major gift solicitation plans based on specific process targets and financial goals.
  • Briefs and staffs the Dean(s) on development initiatives as necessary.
  • Advises and assists with initiatives at the request of the Dean(s) and/or the Chief Development Officer participates, to a reasonable extent, in university-wide activities and initiatives, task forces, and committees.
  • Maintains a commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree.
  • 7 to 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in major gift fundraising.


Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced degree.
  • Major gift fundraising preferably in a university setting.
  • Previous campaign experience.


Managerial Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of fundraising staff for CMN and CHS, signing-off on giving strategies and goals.

  • Polished, professional demeanor and superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and organize long-term plans and execute those plans.
  • Willingness to develop relationships with colleagues across all areas of Advancement and the ability to work successfully with a wide variety of colleagues throughout campus.
