_Veterinary Technology Technician

A full-time technician position with responsibility for assisting the Director and delivering instruction in the Veterinary Technology Program. In addition, the Veterinary Technicians are expected to provide academic advising to current and prospective students and participate in divisional and institutional activities related to the college’s mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Deliver instruction and evaluate student learning in classroom, clinical and laboratory settings.
2.Maintain an environment conducive to learning.
3.Responsible for course and laboratory preparation.
4.Participate in ongoing review and revision of curriculum.
5.Provide academic and career advising to current and prospective students.
6.Remain current in the teaching area(s) through appropriate professional development activities.
7.Actively participate on division and institutional committees.
8.Develop and maintain inventory control system for equipment and supplies.
9.Contribute to programmatic accreditation through continuous data collection/review and analysis of effectiveness.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Actively participates in institutional and community activities that support the institution’s mission.
2.Supports and follows Columbia State, TBR and SACS policies and procedures.
3.Committee assignments and other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORK CHARACTERISTICS:

1.Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and in the language in which the course is being taught.
2.Ability to relate to a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
3.Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and community members.
4.Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
5.Ability to apply strong classroom teaching skills, using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
6.Ability to travel to various campuses and clinical sites and locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.Ability to see, hear, hold, and control animals.
2.Manual dexterity sufficient to perform laboratory procedures.
3.Maintain positive relationships and contracts with clinical affiliates.
4.Normal sitting, standing and movement in a classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.
5.Ability to manipulate, hold, and move equipment both in the classroom/laboratory and from one location to another.
6.Ability to travel to clinical sites.
7.Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

Requirements of the Position

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from AVMA Accredited Program

2. Experience:

•Three-years full-time experience in veterinary practice as a licensed Veterinary Technician (or pending licensure),

OR
•Three-years full-time experience in a comparable/relevant environment,

OR
•Two-years full-time teaching experience,

OR
•A combination of experience in veterinary practice or a comparable/relevant environment, and teaching equivalent to 3-years, full-time


SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS: Tennessee Veterinary Medical Technician license or eligibility to be licensed in Tennessee

Hiring Salary Range: $34,000 - $44,560
