The Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2019. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week, equivalent to 24 units of instruction over the academic year. The department is seeking a sociologist for hire at the assistant-level rank, with expertise in the following areas: emphasis on law/crime/justice and social justice with an emphasis on race/ethnicity, and the ability to teach courses such as Criminology, Crime and Inequality, Juvenile Delinquency and related courses.
Other areas for consideration include: comparative local/transnational, intersectional, and expertise in line with our departmental concentrations. Must have PhD in hand by start date.
The University of San Diego is strongly committed to a “teacher-scholar” model, and, therefore, only candidates with evidence of superior teaching and an active research agenda will be considered for the position. The undergraduate teaching load is three courses per semester.Job Requirements:
