Job Summary/Basic Function

Under direction of the Director of Enterprise Information Systems, this position is responsible for driving innovation and improving delivery effectiveness in an environment of growing demand for data base management and integration across a diverse mix of technologies, protocols, standards and platforms. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Responsibilities:
•Design moderately complex logical / physical data models based on business requirements gathered from application development teams and business users under minimal direction.
•Design data integrations based on business requirements gathered from application development teams and business users under minimal direction.
•Lead and participate in the actual development of databases and/or integrations or changes from above design. Manage the development and ongoing support of the solution throughout the lifecycle, including testing, deployment and maintenance.
•Investigate database performance issues; monitor database capacity; support virtual data center concepts and replication; and perform software maintenance.
Perform database problem diagnosis and resolution.
•Provide technical leadership, advice and mentoring to peers. Recommend changes based on code walkthroughs and implementation plan review. Review database code, recommending changes to developers and peers.
•Diagnose and resolve moderate performance tuning for multiple applications.
Perform Data backup, refresh, restore, ad hoc query requests.
•Understanding of and commitment to protecting the integrity, security and privacy of the University’s critical business data. Promote data quality, enforce data integrity and metadata currency. Adhere to published standards, policies and best practices for: database design, security, storage, internal processes and technology life-cycle management.
•Contribute and ensure all project documentation, including internal documentation related to development/support, is maintained in a standard format that is easily accessible.

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
•Minimum of 3 years of experience with SQL Server
•Minimum of 3 years of direct involvement with the design, development and execution of data base management and integration solutions in a hybrid cloud and on-premise environment
•Proficiency with one or more software integration tools such as Informatica, Jitterbit, or MuleSoft
•Database tools, such as: SQL Server Management Studio, Integration Services, Reporting Services
•Experience with more than one of the following: T-SQL, MS Windows Server, supported releases of SQL Server, Power Shell Scripting, Linux, supported releases of Oracle, PL/SQL, tuning, replication, data modeling, development life cycle methodologies
•Ability to lead diverse group to consensus
•Highly accurate with meticulous attention to detail
•Excellent problem solving capabilities
•Ability to manage multiple projects involving various end users, meet deadlines and proactively communicate status updates
•Demonstrates calm under pressure, is a proactive contributor with an eagerness to learn
•Ability to work positively and cooperatively with others
•Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues in business terms
•Flexible and adaptable to changing activities and work loads
•Excellent interpersonal skills
•Solid organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience with the Ellucian Ethos
•Experience with Informatica used in a hybrid cloud setting
•Experience working in Higher Education technology
•Experience with Salesforce
