Instructional Designer

The office of Digital Learning and Inquiry (DLINQ) at Middlebury seeks an energetic and forward-thinking instructional designer to support evolving strategic initiatives involving digital learning at Middlebury. This position, based at our Middlebury Institute for International Studies location in Monterey, CA, will work closely with faculty and staff to plan, design, and create inspiring and effective digital learning environments; provide crucial support for projects, help to explore new areas of digital learning, and provide insights to strategic decision-making processes related to digital learning.

Master's degree required; Ph.D. preferred. The key qualification for this position is an advanced degree in any academic discipline that provides a foundation for understanding how faculty and pedagogy work, particularly in online/blended contexts. At least 2 years of experience with higher education-focused digital pedagogy and educational technology is required. Experience working with faculty in academic settings is important. Must have professional-level communication and project management skills and ability to communicate with empathy, tact, and clarity; sophisticated knowledge of a broad range of theoretical bases for online/digital learning; advanced technical and administrative knowledge of learning and content management systems; knowledge of the evolving landscape of educational technology, higher education, and the teaching profession; cultural sensitivity and ability to work successfully in a multicultural environment.
