Job Details

Under the direction of the Vice President of Fiscal Affairs, the Budget/Finance Director plans, directs, and manages the college wide budget and priorities.  This involves keying in on important issues across the college, maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal constituent groups, and presenting to the Board of Trustees and executive leadership.  Also, provides technical budget and accounting expertise, financial analysis, and coordination of the audit.  Manages banking, investments and cash flows. 

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience to meet the rigors of the position, for example: a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in a related field and experience in a management role preferred.  

Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Knowledge of:  in-depth understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); supervisory principles and practices; and experience with standard Microsoft Office software products.  Advanced Excel skills required.  Masters in Accounting or Finance and CPA license highly preferred. 

Ability to: manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, busy environment; organize and prioritize workload, and meet deadlines; strike appropriate balance between details and the big picture; manage, supervise, and collaborate with staff; resolve conflicts; perform accurate and complex calculations; utilize automated computer programs and advanced skills with financial software and spreadsheets, and prepare financial reports; exercise sound judgment in dealing with sensitive financial data; maintain confidentiality; dig deep to define problems, evaluate causes, collect data, establish facts and make decisions on appropriate corrective action while balancing value and materiality; stay current with accounting regulations/laws; display excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with all levels of employees and the Board of Trustees; and publicly speak in front of large groups.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.
