Job Description:

The Department of Literatures and Languages and the Communication Program at Mills College invite applications for an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Journalism and Communication. The undergraduate Communication program at Mills College is an exciting interdisciplinary program. This interdisciplinary major and minor program builds on the departments strengths in print journalism, digital storytelling, and creative non-fiction, as well as the Colleges award-winning student newspaper, The Campanil.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of experience as a professional journalist; have demonstrated experience in both print and digital communication; have significant teaching experience; and a proven track record of working in diverse educational institutions. The Assistant Adjunct Professor will teach 3 courses in academic year 2019-20 and serve as faculty advisor for The Campanil. The Assistant Adjunct Professor will also do academic advising. Teaching will include Journalism 1 and 2, Introduction to Communication, and a fourth course in either magazine writing or digital storytelling.

Requirements:

Candidates should have:

  • A Masters in Journalism, MFA in Creative Writing, PhD in a Language and Literatures field, PhD in Communication, or a terminal degree in a related field
  • Experience teaching journalism or communication or both, at the undergraduate level
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work with a diverse and dynamic student population

    Additional Information:

    This is a part-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and 12 sick days. Faculty and staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period. Voluntary benefits include: pet insurance, long-term care insurance, legal-assistance insurance, cellular provider discounts and computer hardware discounts.
