The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites candidates to apply for a one-year, full­-time Category II Instructor of Communication Studies. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses contributing to the oral communication general studies requirement, with opportunity to teach in area of specialty.

MSU Denver prioritizes teaching­ and ­learning excellence. A full-­time load for Category II faculty is 15 credit hours per semester. The department has 11 full-­time faculty, approximately 50 Affiliate faculty, and approximately 250 declared majors within the Department. The Department’s staff consists of a Program Assistant, an Administrative Assistant, and an academic advisor who is shared with another department.

Duties/Responsibilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to teach in courses fulfilling the university’s oral communication general studies requirement, as well as courses serving the Communication Studies major in the candidates area of expertise.

Teaching may include Online, classroom, and Online/Hybrid instruction; classroom instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed.

Required Qualifications

ABD in Communication Studies, Communication, Speech Communication, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

The Department seeks candidates who possess or demonstrate potential to meet as many of the following qualifications as possible.

1. Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners.

2.Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., video, syllabi, evaluations, assignments).

3.Classroom technology skills, including online and hybrid learning environments.
