Reporting to the Director of Operations & Planning for Student Affairs (SA), this position oversees communication for the division of Student Affairs and assists in website editing, maintaining social media, creation of promotional items, and centralizing communication in support of the University’s specific Student Affairs targets and broader strategic plan. The operational work requires effective use of a wide range of platforms and media to engage with a diverse range of audiences. The Manager will be responsible for updating the website and using social media, monthly all-student emails, printed materials, and other creative means to effectively share information and build engagement with prospective and current students. The Manager is empowered and expected to consult with student affairs and marketing communication staff to continuously improve communication processes so they reflect best practices across the University and the field, particularly around inclusiveness for diverse audiences. In particular, the Manager will work closely with the Director of Operations & Planning and other staff to develop thoughtful communication campaigns focused on putting student stories first while highlighting the services SA provides.

Duties/Responsibilities

50% Communications and Social Media Operations
•Develop and execute strategic communication and outreach plans for Student Affairs for both internal and external audiences. Adapt these plans as needed in an environment of significant change and growth.
•Produce excellent communications for Student Affairs across multiple platforms, time frames, and audiences. This includes website, social media, email, daily student newsletters, and other platforms.
•Utilize data analytics to inform decisions and opportunities for improvement.
•Ensure the maintenance of MSU Denver’s brand identity through all activities.
•Through a partnership with Marketing and Communications, work to advance the division’s presence and increase student engagement in a variety of established and emerging social media outlets.
•Seek out and report on the achievements, research, and notable events of the division and students.
•Continuously improve processes and plans to adapt to changing circumstances and uphold best practices, especially around inclusiveness for diverse audiences.
•Cross-train and collaborate as needed to support teamwork with colleagues.
•Create and oversee the content, organization, structure and ongoing maintenance for the daily student newsletter.

40% Communications Planning/Content Generation

•Develop communication goals and measurable outcomes.
•Work collaboratively with division leadership and colleagues from Marketing and Communications to enhance the reputation of, and build support for, Student Affairs and its programs.
•Initiate articles and news items of interest for The Metropolitan, Met Media, and other university print and electronic publications in coordination with departments internally and externally to the division.
•Demonstrate leadership in identifying and applying new and creative ways to reach students and external audiences through social media.
•Strategically build up and manage social media channels for Student Affairs.
•Market the division’s distinct programs and services, and tell the stories of the University’s vibrant campus community to internal and external audiences. Of particular focus are programs and initiatives that directly impact the student experience as well as that of MSU Denver staff.
•Stay abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to, changes in regulations, technology and best practices in order to maintain the professional competency, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
•A part of appropriate committees and work-groups in order to have a more well-rounded understanding of university goals and how our communication ties in.
•Manage and send out text messages on behalf of Enrollment Management to help promote registration and deadlines.
•Technical writing such as letters drafted for the Vice President for Student Affairs.

10% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with project management related to professional marketing communications projects and/or campaigns.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, social media and other online platforms, and website maintenance platforms.
• Experience using social media outlets.
• Customer service experience.
• Years of increasingly responsible professional experience in marketing, communications, engagement, public relations, or donor relations, including in non-profit or community-based organizations as well as corporations.
• Experience producing written and digital marketing materials and communications for a wide range of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Graphic design experience.
• Experience in a higher education setting or other complex organization.
• Proven track record of using marketing analytics in order to steer marketing efforts and decision making.
• Proven experience promoting issues related to diversity and inclusive excellence. • Proven experience improving processes and adapting to change.
• Bilingualism and/or experience with language translation in marketing and communications.
