The Creative Services Unit within the Department of Athletics is responsible for the creation and distribution of video, graphics, animations and other digital projects. The purpose of this content is to inform, engage and excite the Carolina Athletics’ fan-base, generate revenue through ticket sales and sponsorship and assist Carolina’s athletic programs in their efforts to recruit student-athletes. The Creative Services unit will serve as a hub for digital production and social distribution and will interface with various internal and external constituencies including, but not limited to, Athletic Communications, Marketing and Promotions, Go Heels Productions, sport programs, Tar Heels Sports Properties, Tickets and The Rams Club. The Creative Services group will be a leader in college athletics in innovative content generation, technology adoption and communication platforms. The Director of Creative Services will be the team leader of the unit. This individual will establish a multimedia strategy for the Athletic Department with a focus on digital content creation and social media presence of the department. The Director will coordinate and oversee the development and execution of strategy, content, planning and analytical insights while supporting business, recruiting and revenue objectives. The Director of Creative Services will manage a team of graphic design, multimedia content producers, social media experts and others to accomplish these goals. Additionally, the Director will be an expert in one of the creative disciplines managed by the unit. The role reports to the Assistant Athletic Director, Go Heels Productions.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Strength across creative disciplines with an industry expertise in one or more to include writing, editing, graphics and storytelling skills. Ability to lead a creative team – understand how to engage, motivate and support creative personalities. Understanding of monetizing digital content to meet sponsorship and revenue objectives.
Understanding how to support recruiting needs of sport programs – content that resonates on appropriate channels.
Exceptional communication, leadership and organizational skills – includes ability to communicate needs, strategy and results and build consensus with stakeholders outside of the Creative Services unit.
Knowledge of and ability to implement analytics programs to track and report on effectiveness of campaigns, optimize current business and identify new opportunities. Experience with ideation for a professional or University Athletics department or a creative agency with a focus on digital marketing and social media. Strong creative skills required.
Substantial experience working in a creative discipline in a communications role in college athletics, professional sports, media or a communications agency.
Experience managing personnel – particularly those in creative disciplines
A creative powerhouse with the vision to imagine and cultivate new ideas, the voice to champion them and the will to bring them to completion.
Valid NC Driver’s License, Evening work, Night work, Weekend workSpecial Physical and Mental Requirements
Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs.; ability to navigate stairs, demands attention to detail and effective communications skills.
Ability to work during evening hours, night and weekends. Ability to work within time sensitive deadlines.
