The Assistant Director of Global, Immersive and Professional (GIP) Programs creates and implements engaging and enriching academic and experiential programs for students, media professionals and international scholars. The Assistant Director manages a wide range of the School of Media and Journalism’s instructional and co-curricular initiatives, including immersive experiences and professional development opportunities. The Assistant Director oversees budget planning, including special activity funds, awards and sponsored programs, and generates new revenue for the school. The Assistant Director manages relationships with donors, foundations and industry, including preparing proposals that turn vision into action. The Assistant Director collects data and evaluates and assesses all programs. This position reports directly to the Director of Global, Immersive and Professional (GIP) Programs.

Educational Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required with preference for degrees in journalism, communication and/or related field; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of three years of related work experience required. Preference given to candidates with direct experience working with undergraduate students in a university setting and In-depth knowledge of advertising, public relations and journalism curriculum.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate with students, scholars and professionals from diverse backgrounds. The position requires the ability to work independently, exercise judgement and set and adhere to deadlines. The position requires a keen appreciation for prioritization and the ability to see a project through from beginning to end. The successful candidate must be willing to continually take on new and complex projects while juggling multiple priorities and commitments. The individual must be adept at outreach, using the latest digital and social media tools to connect with various audiences. The successful candidate must be highly organized, entrepreneurial in approach and able to manage budgets. This position requires the ability and willingness to travel with students both domestically and internationally. Fluency in a second language (Spanish, French or Mandarin) and knowledge of AP style is preferred.
