Department Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Social/Clinical Research Assistant to work with the Epidemiology Research Team. The Epidemiology Research Team (ERT) within the Department of Radiology conducts studies on cancer risk factors, cancer screening, and health services research. The Epidemiology Research Team is gearing up to embark on a newly-funded study that will build on prior research to investigate the relationship between hormones, breast composition and breast cancer.

Position Description

The primary purpose of Social/Clinical Research Assistant is to recruit and consent study participants, maintain a tracking log documenting the status of collected samples, monitor recruitment targets and manage a study participant tracking database. The person in this position will also monitor and log the request, retrieval, and review of study images, pathology reports and tissue slides, and conduct data abstraction. Duties and responsibilities are patient recruitment for research studies, data abstraction, knowledge of technical aspects of the assigned research studies, and expectations to attend project meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Technical knowledge, experience in data collection, ability to maintain accurate records and the ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with human subjects in a clinical research setting. Preference will be given to individuals holding a clinical research certification (CCRP, CCRC, ACRP-CP, RAC) and/or with a nursing background. Familiarity with the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) system.
