Position Description

This position will serve as the lead analyst for the IT team at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center (MPSC). This position will take a lead role in server management, project management as well as providing hands on
support to our programs, our helpdesk including user support for staff and classroom/event/theater spaces. In addition, this person will have administrative duties and will assist the IT manager in planning and analysis.
Server Management:
Manage server hardware and operating systems. Manage the virtual server environment including server virtualization. Take lead role in server migration. Liaison with Central ITS on server related matters. The person will assist in the maintenance and upgrading of server and other hardware
throughout MPSC.
Customer Service:
Excellent customer service skills are required. This position will be responsible for advanced troubleshooting and advanced desktop support for MPSC staff. This includes remote managing software (such as JAMF and Microsoft). This person must be able to work with constituencies both
internal and external to the school in a professional and courteous manner.
Desktop Management:
Manage the high-level desktop environment, including image creation for OS X and Windows using software such as JAMF and SCCM. This person will be responsible for ensuring all systems and applications are updated in a timely matter. This person must be able to liaison with University IT to successfully integrate MPSC’s desktop environment with University resources.
Administration:
This person will serve as backup for scheduling helpdesk staff and work-study. students who assist the IT team, including reviewing timesheets. This person may attend meetings internal and external to the school on behalf of the IT team. This person will assist the IT manager in preparing and disseminating data and reports on IT matters. This position will assist in
supervising work-study, temporary and student employees.
Project management:
This position will assist the IT Manager in analyzing IT needs of Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and in planning and implementing the solutions. This person will be able to carry out a project plan with minimum supervision. This person may act as project manager or project assistant
on IT components of larger projects at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or
- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journey level required an additional one year of experience

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrated experience with Windows systems administration is essential.
It is essential to have experience in image creation and deployment in Windows environments.
Demonstrated skill in teamwork and strong customer service skills are required.
It is essential to have strong documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UNC policies and systems is preferred.
Knowledge of VMware software is preferred.
Experience with JAMF and Microsoft SCCM is preferred.
Experience with Thinkbox Deadline Software is preferred.
Experience with Render Farms is preferred.
Project management experience is preferred.
A/V technologies administration, setup, and maintenance experience preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications Special Physical and Mental Requirements

Requires the ability to lift / move items weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations on
a regular basis.
Requires the ability to connect/un-connect computer components under and around desks as needed.
