This is a high-level, collaborative research project performance and management position with attendant responsibilities for project and collaboration management, research design, troubleshooting, outcomes analysis, and outcomes synthesis and communication/presentation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Education in Biochemistry or related subject, experience in lab management including instruction and supervision of student researchers, technicians, and postdoctoral researchers, demonstrated expert-level skills and knowledge in protein chemistry, molecular biology, and molecular biophysics as evidenced by publication record, presentation record, and contributions leading to extramural funding including grant proposal writing.
The following laboratory/scientific skills and instrumentation expertise including molecular cloning, PCR, plasmid expression vector design, recombinant protein design, protein expression in bacteria, bacterial cell strains for recombinant protein expression, protein expression vectors for bacteria, analysis and optimization of protein expression in bacteria, protein production and purification, ion exchange and gel filtration chromatography, HPLC, ultrafiltration, centrifugation, affinity chromatography including IMAC, dialysis, site-directed mutagenesis, isotopic labeling of proteins, affinity labeling of proteins, dye labeling of proteins, UV/vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence polarization/anisotropy, circular dichroism spectrapolarimetry, isothermal titration calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance (Biacore), analytical ultracentrifugation, NMR sample preparation for high resolution protein structure studies and related.
General laboratory maintenance, laboratory safety procedures, maintaining a safe laboratory environment, maintaining laboratory supplies and stocks, final decision authority on purchases, general laboratory quality control, directing research of students and other laboratory personnel, mentoring students and lab personnel, establishing and maintain laboratory financial records and budgets.
