The Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Student Involvement and the Student Center is dedicated to promoting a supportive, creative learning environment by developing campus community through a diversity of high quality, student-centered programs and services. The Student Center is looking for energetic students to assist with providing volunteer opportunities to all students, faculty, and staff and engage the community, Community Based Organizations, and assist citizens who have needs, especially food insecurity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with daily gardening routine including
    • Watering plants and vegetables
    • Weeding
    • Composting
    • Garden upkeep
  • Assist with donations of produce to Lawrenceville Co-Op
  • Assist with tours of Garden for classes and Gwinnett County public
  • Attend and participate in Garden Service events
  • Tabling and marketing events and recruiting Garden Volunteers including students, staff, faculty, and Gwinnett Public
  • Record student, staff and faculty volunteer hours on getinvolved
  • Track volunteer hours, donation amounts, and inventory
  • Educational presentations to the GGC community
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credits at Georgia Gwinnett College in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
  • Student job applicants and student employees must be in good standing with the campus Office of Student Conduct.
  • Student must be proficient on Windows based PC's and skilled in Microsoft Office.
  • Good customer services skills with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to details.
  • Willingness to learn new skills to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to build relationships and work with volunteers, and community members.
  • Strong language and communication skills (written and oral).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to give presentations to large groups
  • Community service experience
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Willingness to participate in Volunteer GGC events
  • Experience gardening

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing.
