The School of Business is seeking academically qualified and self-motivated students to work as a peer tutors for business students. The successful candidate must be able to tutor one or more of the following subjects at the introductory level: accounting, statistics, or information systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend assigned classes, assisting faculty during times where active learning activities are taking place
  • Have a fixed tutoring schedule in the Academic Enhancement Center (AEC)
  • Support study group sessions which are currently organized by faculty
  • Attend AEC professional development and training
  • Attend School of Business professional development and training
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a Federal Work-Study award, be enrolled in six credit hours, and be in good academic standing
  • Must be flexible to attend and/or present at offsite or on-campus workshops or professional development opportunities to enhance the program’s efficiency
  • Must be able to attend the summer tutor training and other required meetings
  • Ability to work well with their peers and/or other student with the GGC community, either in the AEC or at other locations across campus
  • Must be able to handle confidential information
  • Must be able to maintain a regular weekly schedule throughout the semester

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Majors in the area of desired tutoring
  • Strong skills using Excel
  • Students on President’s List or Dean’s List
  • Some tutoring, teaching, coaching or mentoring experience
  • The ideal candidate must have completed at least 45 credit hours and have a grade of B or better in their desired tutoring area(s).
  • Must have a strong affinity for helping others, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive disposition.

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing.
