With a reputation as North Carolina’s premier partner for statewide library cooperation and shared digital content, NC LIVE provides 205 public and academic libraries with access to an essential and powerful array of core online resources that support education, enhance economic development, and improve the quality of life for every North Carolinian. NC LIVE delivers shared access to a diverse digital collection that includes full-text article databases, ebooks and audio books, streaming video, demographic and business data, as well as reference materials, language learning tools, and more. In addition, the staff of seven provides authentication, discovery, and support services to member libraries in order to maximize use and return on investment in digital content.

Since its founding in 1997 by representatives of its four Communities of Interest (the community college system, the independent colleges and universities, the public libraries and State Library, and the state university system), NC LIVE has enjoyed a track record of success using entrepreneurial and innovative approaches that build on its collaborative infrastructure. The organization acts as a conduit for partnership as its Executive Director engages member libraries, state agencies, and other groups with shared values and goals to deliver content and services that support North Carolina’s libraries.

NC LIVE has an operating budget of more than $4.3 million and is funded through recurring state appropriations, with solid annual support from the independent colleges and universities. The consortium’s offices are headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina at its host institution, North Carolina State University Libraries, well renowned for its achievements in advancing library technologies and spaces.

Essential Job Duties

NC LIVE invites applications for the position of Open Educational Resources Librarian to lead Open Education North Carolina (OENC), an initiative that reduces the cost of higher education and improves student success across North Carolina’s colleges and universities. Administered by NC LIVE, OENC is a statewide Open Educational Resources (OER) initiative that includes a content hub; curated e-textbooks suited to North Carolina’s most-taught courses; regional training workshops; a promotional campaign; and a faculty adoption grant program. The Open Educational Resources Librarian manages all operational aspects of the OENC initiative; evaluates the initiative’s ROI by measuring performance metrics like adoption rate, cost-savings, and student performance; and regularly reports out to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a passionate advocate for open education who also possesses the operational skills necessary to manage a statewide startup initiative. This position will be expected to own this important initiative, working autonomously, making critical decisions in real-time, overcoming obstacles, and being accountable for results. Because this initiative is partially grant-funded, the Program Manager will also be responsible for fulfilling grant reporting requirements.

Reporting to the Executive Director of NC LIVE, the Open Educational Resources Librarian will work with an OER Advisory Committee to lead this statewide initiative. This position will build and maintain consensus across multiple stakeholder groups, advocate effectively for OER to a variety of audiences, and maintain focus on activities that will generate significant ROI. The Open Educational Resources Librarian will coordinate with partners and vendors as needed. They will report on performance results against plan.

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Education/Experience

ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science.

•Knowledge of current and emerging trends at library consortia.
