Under general direction, provides academic advising to students on course selection, requirements for selected area of concentration and a wide range of issues to support student success and graduation.

Schedules and leads advising meetings for BSW students in preparation for semester registration.

Prepares advising templates for new academic programs within the degree program, and consults with Assistant Director for Academic Advising.

Coach students, as needed to create success plans, set goals, and share resources to reach academic goals

Provides resources and advising plans for students experiencing personal or academic difficulties in the program.

Coordinates programming for student orientations and undergrad events.

Works with the Assistant Director of Advising for supporting students on probation or struggling in other areas;

Provides walk-in Advising opportunities for students at Lake Shore campus

Collaborates with First & Second Year Advising unit for seamless transition into major.

Coordinates and facilitates BSW related events

Reviews and updates BSW forms, handbook, and webpage as needed

Prepare graduation audits for BSW students

Assists with Student Affairs events for School of Social Work, including convocation, commencement, orientation, Career Fair, etc.

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field required and one to two years of related experience.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to various groups, both internal and external to the SSW; Possess excellent interpersonal, customer relations and team development skills, including cultural humility, conflict management, strength-based and solution-focused problem solving skills.

Computer Skills

Proficient computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and other advising related software. Adept of e-mail and other office automation systems. Proficiency with academic enterprise software recommended.
