Position Description:
The Senior Public Relations Officer manages external media relations and plays a significant role in conceptualizing, creating, and executing a strategic and measurable communications program including ownership of the strategic vision of publicity efforts to enhance the visibility and reputation of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and expand media outreach in a measurable manner.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading active and sustained engagement with broadcast, online and print media; supporting the Assistant Dean for Communications to advance the school's initiatives; and positioning the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health as a "go to" resource for all things public health. The incumbent is a highly skilled writer and editor of content for both digital and traditional communication platforms, focusing on school initiatives, faculty research, student training and community impact programs all of which are done at a fast pace and presented to the media, public, and a larger global audience.

In addition to media relations, the Senior Public Relations Officer responsibilities include co-managing the school's magazine, helping to shape the editorial direction of the magazine and working with the Assistant Dean for Communications to oversee the magazine's Editorial Board.

The incumbent works closely with the school's web manager/senior communications associate and and the school's communications associate to ensure consistent messaging and branding, and manages multimedia content produced by the aforementioned that relates to external media efforts. Thorough understanding of social media and other digital platforms is required of this position.

The incumbent will conduct regular ongoing media-related research and reports on the effectiveness of current external strategic initiatives, per benchmarks set by the Assistant Dean for Communications.

Additional responsibilities include active collaboration with all team members in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health's Communications Office and Dean's Office. The Senior Public Relations Officer will meet with faculty and staff to track initiatives and active research programs in order to produce stories in multiple formats to be shared with local and global audiences, elevating the School's brand. The incumbent will collaborate on high profile and special projects as determined by the Assistant Dean for Communications and the Dean of the Fielding School of Public Health.

The incumbent will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining productive working relationships with UCLA media teams, including UCLA Health and DGSOM, UCLA Newsroom and UCLA Broadcast Studio.
