Responsibilities
The C. V. Starr East Asian Library (EAL) is one of the most heavily used libraries on campus, serving as an information and research hub for faculty, students, and scholars from Berkeley and other institutions in North America and overseas. As the Reference and Public Services Coordinator, the incumbent will provide the following core services:

  • Conduct, field, and triage reference and patron services on a daily basis.
  • Instruct undergraduate and graduate students in the use of EAL's print and electronic resources in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. Instruction may be one-one-one or in a class environment.
  • Provide other effective instructional services to library users.
  • Coordinate and deliver orientations to campus constituency and other groups.
  • Participate in the development of discovery and finding tools for online and print resources for East Asian studies; e.g., guides to collection resources, LibGuides, etc.
  • Serve as public services expert on policies and procedures for technical services and other service groups.
  • Assist other libraries and units in the UCB Library in verifying records and troubleshooting problems involving EAL holdings.
  • Work with Library Systems to maintain public PCs, printers, and scanners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
  • Fluency in English and reading and speaking knowledge of at least one East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean).
  • Public services experience in an academic environment.
  • Familiarity with an integrated library system.
  • Familiarity with computer operating systems, OfficeSuite, communication tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of East Asian studies as an academic discipline
  • Advanced degree in a field of East Asian studies.
  • Work experience in an academic library.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a teamwork setting.

    Salary & Benefits
    The annual salary range of the position is $50,100 - $76,300, commensurate with experience.
