Overview

The manager of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies works closely with the director to execute policy and strategic direction for the operation of the Center and participate in short and long-term planning for center operations and activities. While the director establishes the academic and intellectual direction of the Center, the center manager provides support for the director’s vision.

The center manager is responsible for ensuring that the faculty, students, and staff in the center have the necessary assistance to carry out their academic, research and administrative duties. The center manager reports directly to the center director, with a secondary reporting relationship to the associate dean for academic affairs in the office of the Dean of the Faculty.

Responsibilities

Budget and financial management: The center manager develops the administrative budget for the center, in collaboration with the director. The manager is responsible for careful and appropriate management of the center’s financial resources. The center manager monitors spending and provides regular and timely analysis and projections of the available funds to the director. The manager works with the Office of Finance and Treasury to resolve complex funding issues and facilitate third-party international payments. The manager assists affiliated academic department with its Iran-related budget planning. The manager administers the Center funding application and award process, communicating funding procedures, deadlines and expectations and ensuring recipients' compliance; maintaining funding usage records for auditing and funds management.

Academic management: The center manager supervises the administration of the teaching component of center activities, ensuring that the center meets all deadlines for University offices. The manager is responsible for appointments for postdoctoral researchers and appointments of visiting fellows and visiting students; course and enrollment information; informing certificate students of program requirements; informing certificate and graduate students of grant offerings; and summer study/research programs.

Communication and Events: In consultation with the center director, the manager plans, budgets, and implements all major events, including conferences, seminars, lecture series, and faculty meetings. The manager is also responsible for center communications, including drafting reports, maintaining the website and updating the center calendar.

Additional duties: Manages facilities (office assignments, renovations and repairs; classroom assignments and scheduling); coordinate of housing for Limited Engagement visitors.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 4-6 years in administrative management position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Skill with website content management and development, and desktop publishing.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management.
  • Flexibility, adaptive to changing needs; ability to work quickly and accurately with good attention to detail; sound judgment; creativity and problem solving skills; a willingness to innovate; efficiency.
  • Ability to work well alone and/or with others; prioritizes tasks effectively.

The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.
