Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

THE DEPARTMENT OF KINESIOLOGY has 32 full‐time faculty and is one of nine departments or programs in the School of Health and Human Sciences (http://www.uncg.edu/hhs/). The faculty are strongly committed to curriculum and scholarly diversity, and to increasing faculty representation among colleagues from historically under-represented groups. The department has a history of excellence in teaching, scholarship, external funding, professional service, and collegiality. Advances in health and wellness, a historical strength of the Department, is one of three cross-cutting, cross-disciplinary areas of focus in the University’s Strategic Plan (https://strategicplan.uncg.edu/). The department is located in a modern facility with extensive classroom, laboratory, and gymnasia space, and offers B.S., M.S., M.S.A.T., Ed.D, and Ph.D. degrees http://www.uncg.edu/kin. The University’s Gateway MRI Center is a dedicated facility for faculty and student research. The center houses a 3T magnetic resonance scanner with capabilities for a variety of functional, quantitative, and structural imaging (https://mricenter.uncg.edu/).

Position Summary

We are seeking an energetic faculty member with expertise in neuroscience to strengthen interdisciplinary research focused on the neuroanatomy and neurophysiological processes connecting brain function with human movement. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining an active line of research, including engagement in interdisciplinary collaborations; teaching, advising, and supervising student research in areas of expertise; and engaging in collaborative departmental, university, and professional service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have 1) an earned doctorate neuroscience or related field, and 2) evidence of a focused line of research with potential to seek external funding to support research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching and mentoring students in scholarly endeavors. Encompass a broad view of neuroscience with strong interest in interdisciplinary collaborations across Department sub-disciplines. Expertise in fMRI and related neuroimaging techniques is also highly desirable.
