General Description / Primary Purpose

The University of North Florida invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in English, with a specialization in Rhetoric and Composition, beginning August 5, 2019. A PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition is required. We seek innovative candidates with experience in curricular design to support writing at all levels in the respective disciplines throughout the university. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrable experience and expertise in the following areas: writing theory and pedagogy, writing assessment, tutor training, budget management, and the implementation of actions of continuous improvement planning. We seek candidates with an established research agenda in academic integrity, media studies, interdisciplinary writing, and/or writing pedagogy. Course load is normally three courses per semester.

Prepare course materials and offer in-person and/or online writing instruction as assigned by the Writing Program & Center Director and/or Department of English Chair. Perform other service-related activities including outreach, participating in assessment activities, working on committees, and other departmental and university service. Develop, sustain, and make public (or publish) a meaningful and coherent matrix of research and professional development.

Five years’ experience teaching college-level writing.
