Job Details and Requirement:
This position is responsible for providing research and writing support for significant college strategic initiatives, in order to develop proposals in support of the College’s Advancement efforts. The writer will be responsible for helping create materials and marketable content that align prospective donors and volunteers to the priorities of the College. The drafter must be able to gather and synthesize many sources of information (speeches, websites, magazine articles, etc.) into coherent and inspiring documents, including fundraising proposals, white papers, speeches and annual reports.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Philanthropy & Strategic Initiatives, the writer will conduct research and write white papers. Within the framework of the Office of Institutional Philanthropy and Strategic Initiatives, this position will collaborate with the President, senior staff, faculty, and other stakeholders to research, synthesize information, write, review, and edit complex, comprehensive, and inspirational documents that outline current and future endeavors of the College. Furthermore, the writer must amend and personalize white papers for use in proposals, letters, and publications. Perform proofreading of proposals, reports, correspondence, brochures, publications and communications as requested.
Research global trends and responses, gather data relevant to CMC initiatives and priorities, investigate foundation and corporate prospects using appropriate and relevant information for the cultivation and solicitation of donor support. At the direction of the Director of Institutional Philanthropy and Strategic Initiatives, communicate directly with foundations and corporations to obtain information.
Provide speech drafting support for internal and external events with an Advancement objective. As needed, work with Public Affairs and the President to research and write speeches for the President, as well as other special projects for the President’s Office and Office of Institutional Philanthropy.
Research and write stewardship reports for foundation and corporate donors, as well as reports on CMC’s endowed scholarship and professorship funds. Contact faculty and staff to obtain narrative and financial report information, write reports and transmittal letters for reports to foundations and corporations in a timely manner to meet grant reporting content and deadline requirements. Compose correspondence for signature by the President, the Director of Institutional Philanthropy, and other CMC administrators. Determine conditions and terms of grants and add to reporting and pledge payment schedules.
As requested by the Director of Institutional Philanthropy assist in researching and writing grant proposals. Work with faculty and staff, to gather information, write proposals, gain necessary internal approvals, and prepare final documents. Compile, write, and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and other Advancement office staff in activities relating to the cultivation and solicitation of support for CMC from individual, as well as foundation and corporate, donors.
Assist with other administrative and fundraising projects as requested.

Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Journalism or equivalent field is required, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
A minimum of 1-2 years of writing experience within higher education, business or political environment. Demonstrated experience in visionary and influential writing required.
A valid driver’s license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge skills and abilities.
Requires exceptional professional writing, editing, analytical, and research skills. Must have strong verbal skills and the ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Must have an attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
Requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interface professionally with administrators, faculty, and donors. Must have an ability to work effectively with the donor community, with the academic community, and with colleagues in a cooperative environment. Must be sensitive to donors’ interests and possess a thorough understanding of the development process.
Requires excellent organizational skills, an ability to work independently with minimal direction, and an ability to work well with others.
Must have proficiency in use of database, spreadsheet, and word processing systems. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software desirable.

The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will/may be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. This is a 12 month position.
