The Marketing Manager will play an integral role on the Sales and Marketing team, working closely with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sales and Marketing in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic marketing plan that increases ticket revenue and drives attendance for football, wrestling, men's and women's basketball; and also creates memorable and exciting fan experiences for all intercollegiate athletics programs. The Marketing Manager is also responsible for promotional and production aspects of athletics events and activities of football, men's and women's basketball, wrestling, and other athletic sports programs as designated, including event entertainment and collaborating with the Mountain Hawks Sports Properties to execute promotions. The Marketing Manager will also foster innovative and collaborative efforts to engage students, staff, alumni, sponsors, and prospective fans of Lehigh Athletics.

Accountabilities:
  1. Administration
    • Plays an integral role on the Sales and Marketing team, working closely with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sales and Marketing in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic marketing plan that increases ticket revenue and drives attendance for football, wrestling, men's and women's basketball, and also creates memorable and exciting fan experiences for all intercollegiate athletics programs
    • Responsible for promotional and production aspects of athletics events and activities of football, men's and women's basketball, wrestling, and other athletic sports programs as designated, including event entertainment and collaborating with the Mountain Hawks Sports Properties to execute promotions
    • The Marketing Manager will also foster innovative and collaborative efforts to engage students, staff, alumni, sponsors, and prospective fans of Lehigh Athletics
    • Responsible for marketing all Lehigh athletics events and external events; collaborates with University Communications and works directly with Media Relations and Sports Communications
    • Maintain NCAA and Patriot League compliance requirements
    • Completes mandatory reports, attend and lead meetings and respond to supervisory requests
    • Performs related duties as assigned
    • Participates in the planning, organization, execution and evaluation of sale and marketing programming

  2. Supervision
    • Assists in the supervision of other staff members as well as interns and wage, work-study, and/or volunteer personnel: provides work assignments and instructions, communicates performance expectations, and checks work to ensure it is completed as required
    • Supervises the in-event entertainment production including the pre- and post- intermission activities of the Dance Team, Cheerleaders, Marching Band, Pep Band, mascot, anthem performers, in-event entertainment and contest promotions for the four ticket-selling sports
    • Provides direct assignments and instructions, evaluating work to ensure it is completed as intended, and conducts performance appraisals, programs reviews, periodic progress assessments and professional mentoring
    • Leads and participates in position searches, interviews and recommendations regarding hiring of staff
    • Promotes a commitment to diversity in all supervisory responsibilities
    • Trains regular and wage and volunteer staff on operational procedures
    • Participates in professional mentoring of interns and other staff
    • Conducts performance appraisals, program reviews and periodic progress assessments
  3. Management
    • Develops and implements a Sports Marketing Plan to maximize season ticket sales, individual event ticket sales and group ticket sales; this includes renewals and the generation of new ticket purchases for football, wrestling, men and women's basketball and other intercollegiate athletics programs, where appropriate
    • Develops and implements an on-campus promotions plan for the University community designed to increase fan attendance at ticketed athletics events
    • Develops and implements a marketing plan for external events designed to increase fan attendance at ticketed external events
    • Develops and executes the advertising plan as part of the overall marketing plan, including but not limited to digital, print, radio, TV, database, social and grass-roots
    • Build and execute game scripts
    • Manages efforts in support of promotion of other sport programs
    • Manages the design, production, and distribution of all marketing materials and graphics for both ticketed and non-ticketed sports
    • Daily decisions about the allocation of time, resources and talents to program initiatives
    • Managerial activities include extensive problem identification, problem solving and problem avoidance
    • Identify improvement needs in processes, procedures, and practices
    • Substantial contribution to the planning of annual objectives, tracking metrics, and methodologies
  4. Leadership
    • Promotes and reinforces the institutional and Departmental mission, vision, values and priorities within and beyond the Department Staff, including public audiences
    • Identification and evaluation of initiatives aimed at improving existing programs and staff
    • Training and mentoring student interns, Graduate Assitants, Student Workers as well as coordinating Student spirit groups
    • Improves the use of technology, improving techniques, improving execution, improving productivity and improving evaluation systems
    • Leads or participates in situational decision-making to effectively mitigate issues, handle contingencies and resolve problems
    • Educates others regarding policies and enforces policies pertaining to sale and marketing programming
  5. Advancement
    • Participates on Departmental committees
    • Occasional service on University or professional committees
    • Engages in personal development as a professional as well as in the growth of the supervised staff
    • Researches best practices at other institutions and organizations for continuous improvement
    • Works collaboratively with the Media Relations and Multimedia team, Ticket Services, Facilities and Events team and Mountain Hawks Sports Properties to develop entertaining in-game promotions and activation of sponsorships
    • Establishes and cultivates relationships with the University community including students, campus groups, faculty and staff in order to enhance good will and promote positive relationships within Lehigh
    • Promotes and reinforces the institutional and departmental mission, vision, values and priorities within and beyond the department; including public audiences
    • Builds and maintains collaborative working relationships with vendors, service providers, clients, event staff and other contacts
    • Pursues personal development as a professional
  6. Results
    • Achieves the educational, competitive, service and financial objectives defined by the Department and the University
    • Contributes to institutional visibility via Department achievements
    • Encourages personal growth and development for each staff member and every student-athlete

Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Three to five years related work experience
  3. Related sports marketing experience, preferably in college athletics
  4. Demonstrated experience in digital marketing with significant hands-on social media experience
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Excellent writing ability and organizational skills
  7. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  8. Supervisory experience preferred
  9. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  10. Demonstrated experience in design programs like Adobe Suite
  11. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification
