Lecturer Pool - Department of Classics
The Department of Classics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach sections of the following lower and/or upper division lecture courses:

. Reading & Composition
. Greek Language
. Latin Language
. Classics

May include section teaching - not lead instructor for course and/or lead instructor for content or language course. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; screening of applications is ongoing and continues as needed. The need varies in each teaching term, and the percentage of a lecturer appointment ranges from 18% to 100% time. Appointments may be renewed based on need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): teaching one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attending all lectures; advising students and holding regular office hours; assigning grades; preparing course materials; and maintaining a course website. Generally, independent courses meet for a total of 3-4 hours per week; each section of lecture courses meets for a total of 2 hours per week (lecture attendance adds 3-4 hours).

Preferred Qualifications (by start date):
For Reading & Composition courses, experience teaching college composition
For Greek /Latin language courses and Classics courses, PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Classics or related field

Salary is commensurate with education and years of college-level teaching experience. The starting minimum full-time equivalent salary is $54,738 in accordance with the current Unit 18 lecturer salary scale and its provisions.
