Stanford's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) is the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the country. We are the proud Home of Champions! Under the direction of the Assistant AD of Facilities and Operations at Stanford Athletics, the Director of Facilities is responsible for the building operations, scheduling and maintenance of two 75,000 square foot recreation facilities for students, faculty and staff. This position is also directly responsible for managing sustainability best practices throughout the Athletic Department's indoor recreation facilities.


Job Responsibilities Include:


Facility Management


  • Serve as facility operations and maintenance point of contact for designated buildings.

  • Inspect facility for maintenance, janitorial and fire safety issues on an ongoing basis.

  • Monitor preventative maintenance plans, HVAC systems, LCP programming schedules and work orders to ensure all repairs/adjustments are done in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate with outside contractors to ensure work does not disrupt facility activities.

  • Respond to facility emergencies related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general facility issues, etc.

  • Direct facility closures, maintenance shutdowns and long term projects.

  • Participate in and occasionally lead weekly maintenance meetings.

  • Ensure facility compliance with federal, state, and county public health and safety regulations.

  • Implement facility security programs by developing procedures/practices, distributing keys, monitoring access points, assessing security infrastructure needs (security cameras, interlocks and alarms), and assessing/changing door access schedules.

  • Coordinate communications services (telephony liaison, network administrator) and provide updates/alerts/notifications to building occupants.

  • Coordinate the purchasing, inventory and maintenance of equipment related to the office spaces, mechanical rooms, and facility fixtures.

  • Prepare and monitor the annual facility budget.

  • Manage locker rental program to include the cleanout process and inventory maintenance at AOERC.

  • Work closely with the Recreation and Wellness Department.


Staff Management


  • Directly oversee and manage the Assistant Director, Scheduling and Events

  • Lead and direct the work of four(4) Bargaining Unit Maintenance Persons (does not have supervisory authority and is not expected to exercise independent judgment on final decisions regarding quality or quantity of work produced by such employees, or personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discharge or disciplinary measures); assigns, schedules, and explains tasks based on specifications received from Assistant AD; motivates employees to meet quality and quantity standards; inspects the work of others for conformance within specifications; records information on the work performed; checks to see that safety rules are followed and/or performs other duties to promote the smooth flow of work by the group; responsible for keeping Assistant AD advised of work progress, problems, safety issues, and other significant information that directly affects the operation of the unit.


Sustainability


  • Create a development plan for the Athletics recreation facilities and best practices for sustainability.

  • Identify and facilitate facility energy savings, water conservation and waste management projects to include LED retrofit, HVAC upgrades, occupancy sensors, low flow water fixtures, recycling and composting.

  • Promote sustainable practices to building tenants, programs and teams.

  • Partner with existing sustainability programs on campus to expand into the Athletics Department.


To be successful in this role, you will bring:


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in the field of recreation, or related field.

  • Candidate must have a minimum five years of job related experience.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, exercise good judgment and initiative.

  • Analytical skills to analyze and track complex space, equipment and financial data.

  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, mature judgment when interacting with a broad range of people, including faculty/vendors/stakeholders/program areas, both individually and in groups.

  • Ability to coordinate daily activities including scheduling multiple projects with competing priorities, measuring quality assurance, monitoring of maintenance activities, and supervision of personnel.

  • Knowledge of current risk management practices and emergency preparedness plans and their implementation in recreational facilities.

  • Working knowledge of applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience in online scheduling software (i.e. EMS, 25Live, etc.).


Certifications and Licenses


  • CPR, AED and First Aid

  • Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License
