Job Description

POSITION TITLE:Language Arts Instructor- C2YF
STATUS:Part time. Grant-funded
DEPARTMENT:Workforce Education
DIVISION:Academic Affairs
REPORTS TO:Instructional Coordinator of Connect to Your Future (C2YF) GED Completion
HOURLY PAY RATE:$25.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY
This position offers an opportunity to instruct youth ages 17-24 in the area of Language Arts for high school equivalency classes for the Connect to Your Future Program. Individuals must adapt to new and changing situation, demonstrate respect for students, have understanding of learning styles and apply understanding to instruction. Must create a student-centered learning environment that is accessible to individual learners with diverse educational needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Facilitate classes and workshops to teach principles, techniques, or methods in Language Arts GED to C2YF participants.
2.Assess students’ needs based on assessments; monitor progress, make recommendations, report outcomes and/or take actions to improve performance measures.
3.Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs, learning styles, and abilities.
4.Employ instructional methods and utilize curriculum that meets State High School Equivalency standards.
5.Assign and grade class work; record demonstrated progress and GED readiness.
6.Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures and effectively resolve conflict situations.
7.Prepare and maintain appropriate classroom records.
8.Participate in achieving grant, departmental and college goals and objectives.
9.Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Bachelor’s Degree in English or secondary education degree with English language arts emphasis
2.Two (2) years K-12 Language Arts teaching experience in k-12, developmental education, or higher education.
3.Strong personal computer and technology skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
4.Strong interpersonal, communication, time-management and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Master’s Degree in Education.
2.Knowledge of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
3.Three (3) years of teaching experience in adult education (ABE, GED,) and/or developmental college reading, writing, and/or math. Certification, certificates, endorsements and related experience will be considered.
4.Elementary, Middle School, High School Teacher Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1.Normal office physical demands.
2.Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
Requires flexible scheduling, evening hours and some weekend work as well as local travel.

Internal candidates must adhere to the terms of employment regarding length of time in current position as outlined in their union contract.
