Job Details
The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College is to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities. Faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better workers and better citizens.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesFull-time teaching faculty in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program are responsible for teaching various courses in the discipline. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning environments. All faculty members must be available to teach day, evening and weekend classes. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees, and participate in curriculum development and assessment which may involve partnering with fieldwork educators to ensure that fieldwork opportunities align with the programmatic objectives and curriculum design .This appointment has a normal teaching load of 15 credits per semester.
Minimum QualificationsMust hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body. Must be nationally certified by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and currently licensed to practice occupational therapy in the state of Virginia.
Current American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) member.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapy practitioner. Experience complying with fieldwork requirements of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
Must be compliant with the code of ethics of the profession of Occupational Therapy.
The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of the College’s locations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Master’s degree.
Background in clinical education coordination and/or academic fieldwork coordination.A minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience. Experience partnering with fieldwork educators to ensure that fieldwork opportunities align with the programmatic objectives and curriculum design . Completion of AOTA Fieldwork Educator Certificate Program.
Clinical expertise in areas of neuro, pediatrics, and adult physical disabilities.
Background in the latest Canvas interface.
Experience teaching in the community college environment. Experience with and preparation for teaching culturally, linguistically, socio-economically, and academically diverse students at the college-level; college-level teaching experience; experience with a diverse campus population; certification in teaching hybrid or online courses.
The ability to effectively teach OTA concepts in the classroom. Ability to use technology to enhance classroom instruction. Ability to use on-line resources and Learning Management Systems. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
Additionally, a thorough understanding of the NOVA OTA program’s curriculum design.
Knowledge and understanding of the program’s fieldwork policies and procedures.

investigation, which may include: fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, verification of
education, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the VCCS and NOVA such as
I-9 and E-Verify requirements. Additionally, selected candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s
Statement of Economic Interest.
