Assistant Director - HR Business Partner (Office of Information Technology)

DescriptionJob Purpose: Serve as a key strategic advisor to senior leadership anddepartment management of one or more large, complex units with multipledissimilar departments, employee classes, and diverse HR needs. This positionwill collaborate with unit leadership and Georgia Tech Office of HumanResources (GTHR) to assess and anticipate HR-related needs and developintegrated solutions. The position develops partnerships across HR to delivervalue-added service to management and employees reflective of unit andInstitute-wide objectives. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessingemployee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

 Major Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with unit leadership and GTHR to help increase employee and manager performance and advance interests of the unit within context of the Institute.
  • Assist in the development of strategic direction and collaborate with GTHR to present analysis and recommendations related to human capital.
  • Lead unit in full-scope performance management, partnering with HR to provide excellent resources and service.
  • Coach and advise leaders and managers within unit, and collaborate with HR to facilitate leadership development, including leadership and management training.
  • Develop and implement talent management strategy for unit.
  • Ensure employee relations support and consultation with department management.
  • Influence relationships and resources between the unit and GTHR, supporting balance of unique unit needs with consistency across the Institute.
  • Oversee and facilitate unit HR programs and processes including restructurings & reorganizations, talent management, workforce planning, succession planning, etc. Facilitate change management and communications.
  • Manage, develop, and support direct report(s) and other staff in providing HR support for the unit. Supervise, review, and support document submission for HR processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work Experience: Seven or more years of progressively responsible HR roles, including significant employee relations experience
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Skills: This job requires the ability to develop and maintain credibility with senior level managers including strong business acumen, emotional intelligence, and communication skills. Experience with resolving complex issues regarding retention, equity, and professional development is required as is a working knowledge of applicable workplace laws. Additionally, required is a demonstrated history of successfully applying HR consulting, negotiating, and influencing skills; as well as techniques and knowledge of HR concepts and best practices.


  • QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred Education: MBA or other related advanced degree
  • Preferred Work Experience: Five or more years of HR strategy and management experience
  • Preferred Certifications: SHRM-SCP/CP or SPHR/PHR
  • Preferred Skills: Supervisory experience (project management involving supervision of others work is also considered) is strongly preferred. Management consulting and previous senior level management experience with a large and complex organization.
