The Laboratory Assistant will be working for the Fels Institute at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. The essential duties include working with other scientists to develop pharmacological and genetic approaches to modulate immune cell function and performing animal experiments; cell cultures, gene cloning, and chemical compound tests.
The Laboratory Assistant will be preparing reagents and solutions; handing solvents; making and running electrophoresis gels; handling, breeding and genotyping laboratory mice, providing general laboratory maintenance functions such as making solutions, ordering and maintaining the chemical inventory, performing routine equipment checks, calibration and cleaning, updating protocols and databases, attending safety seminars and group meetings, updating recording of data and observations in a laboratory notebook; setting up and troubleshooting new technologies for the laboratory; writing out detailed protocols; and recording any modifications in a laboratory notebook. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
At least one year of directly related laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to perform routine cell culture, gene cloning, chemical compound tests
*Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records of research performed to NIH standards.
*Demonstrated ability to work with mice in a research setting.
*Demonstrated ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office Suite.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
*Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
*BA or BS degree in Biological Sciences.
*Ability to perform cell preparation
