The MGH Institute of Health Professions,an independent graduate school in Boston, MA, invites applications for a termlecturer position to teach our fully online course: Online Biochemistry 1 withLab.This position is contracted on a semester-basis.  Semester reappointments will depend onbudget and performance.

Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the mainconcepts in biochemistry with a focus on clinical correlations. Topics coveredinclude structure of biological macromolecules, transmission of information,functions of proteins, review of metabolic pathways and their control, andbiochemistry of essential physiological processes. Students will discussclinical relevance, providing concrete examples of how basic biochemicalknowledge translates into health or pathological conditions. This course has arequired hands-on laboratory component using a lab kit purchased from eScienceLabs. Students will perform each experiment, record their notes, obtain resultsand respond to pre- and post-experiment questions; write a final lab reportincluding Introduction, Objectives, Methods and Materials, Procedure, andResults


The course is taught with anemphasis on connecting foundational principles of Biochemistry to relevantapplications in health care.

 The term lecturer will:
    • Complete the online trainingprogram Extend Your Impact.
    • Provide an online course in Desireto Learn (D2L) that addresses each of the topics listed above.
    • Provide high quality instruction toall students delivered fully in the online environment throughout the semester.
    • Teaching responsibilitiesinclude:
      • Production andpublication of course syllabus
      • Overallresponsibility for course management
      • Delivery ofcontent
      • Assessment ofstudent performance including grading
      • Student mentoringand support, including designated office hours.


Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Biochemistry or related field
  • Experience in education of health care providers
  • Experience in teaching online learners
Preferred:
  • Demonstration of supporting student success in onlineinstruction
