Position Description:
Plans and implements Occupational Therapy programs for a caseload of students. Major duties include provision of occupational therapy assessment and evidenced based treatments and coordination of program planning with multidisciplinary team. Develops, implements and coordinates an occupational therapy program to facilitate the needs of students who require services. Services will include screening, evaluation, and therapeutic interventions to students who demonstrate a disruption in their ability to perform in their occupational role as a student. Evaluations may include student observations and/or administration of age-appropriate assessments. Collaboration with educational personnel, community agencies, parents and students may be initiated in order to increase understanding of the student's occupational performance and promote student success. Student's strengths and problem areas will be identified based upon evaluation findings and will determine objectives. Objectives for each child will be developed that are measurable and attainable. Progress towards objectives will be documented. Interventions to facilitate student participation and occupational performance will be provided within the school environment. The effects of occupational therapy interventions will be monitored and reassessed to determine need to continue, modify or discontinue the intervention. Recommendations to adapt and modify the environment including assistive technology and training to educational staff to meet individual needs and help students function as independently as possible may be administered. Continuing education and in-services for educational personnel will be provided on an as needed basis, which may include topics such as, sensory strategies, ergonomics, and fine motor skills. Inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments, as well as project needs will be managed for budget planning purposes. Files and/or records for the purpose of ensuring availability of information as required will be obtainable for reference.
