General Purpose
Definition
Under direction, leads, assigns, monitors and reviews the work of department staff, and performs law enforcement functions to provide a safe environment for students, staff and the public such as traffic and field patrol, dispatch, investigations, crime prevention, college and community relations, training and related services and activities.

Education & Experience
High School diploma or GED, and graduation from a POST Police Academy. Three (3) years of experience as a sworn peace officer performing patrol, police, investigative, personnel protection, and property protection duties. Experience as a lead or supervisor is preferred.
Licenses & Certificates
Valid Driver's License.
Valid POST Basic certificates.
Valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
Satisfactory completion of a California Police Officers Standards and Training P.O.S.T. Certified Supervisory course within the first year (12 calendar months) of employment.
Complete a POST Campus Law Enforcement Course within one year of the date of hire.
Special Conditions
Applicants must pass a POST approved background investigation, a medical examination and psychological examination.

Physical Demands
Performs duties while wearing equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands and fingers to use a firearm, conducted electrical weapon, or baton, and to handle and feel computers, standard business equipment and writing implements; and reach with hands and arms. Use muscular effort (or strength) as needed to stoop, bend, twist, turn, kneel, squat, crawl, lift, push, pull or carry an object and exercise physical force when controlling combative persons. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, ride a bicycle, and drive a police vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, color discrimination, and 20/20 vision with corrective lenses. Lift, carry, and drag supplies and equipment weighing at least 165 lbs. Required to run, jump, or climb based on operational needs demanding quick movement on a variety of surfaces, terrain, and obstacles including rocks, walls, fences, barricades, ditches, etc., ambulating quickly and sure-footedly.

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret complex data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use math and mathematical reasoning; learn and apply new information or skills; maintain appropriate decision-making skills and sound judgement under adverse and stressful conditions, perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks with constant interruptions; remain focused while listening to multiple conversations at once (ie. using ear piece); work under intensive deadlines and interact with District administrators, management, Personnel Commissioners, board members, faculty, staff, representatives of other agencies, and others encountered in the course of work.

Work independently with minimal supervision. Work in situations which require the supervision or control of persons who may become physically violent, or combative; be exposed to a variety of settings and circumstances including trauma, grief, death, hazardous materials; maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance; required to frequently travel to locations other than assigned site; schedule changes may frequently occur based on business needs; work different shifts, weekends, holidays and extended schedules, work prolonged hours, as necessary, and variable shifts; work inside protected from the weather; work outside exposed to the weather and varying temperatures; work on surfaces that vary in stability; work at varying heights and/or on top of building structures; exposure to fumes, vapors or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and biological hazards such as cleaning solutions and human bodily fluids. NOTE: Most exposure is under OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL). However, during patrol, officers may experience increased decibels while driving with siren, during crowd control or civil unrest, sporting events, or during a combat situation where hearing protection is not an option.

APPLICATION REVIEW AND ASSESSMENTS
The application review process includes an evaluationof training and experience based on given application information and answers to supplemental questionnaire.Only the most qualified applicants, who pass the minimum qualifications review, will be invited to the assessment process.
The assessment process will also include a competency assessment (50% weight) and an oral interview assessment (50% weight). Of those achieving a passing score on the competency assessment, only the 15 highest scoring candidates, plus ties, will be invited to the oral interview assessment. Passing score is 75% out of 100% on each assessment section.

ELIGIBILITY LIST
Those applicants who pass the assessmentwill be placed on a district-wide continuous eligibility list within ranks 1-3.The district-wide continuous eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies inthis classificationfor at least six months.
PASSING THE ASSESSMENTS AND BEING PLACED ON THE ELIGIBILITY LIST DO NOT GUARANTEE AN OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.
Candidates hired in this position are required to work various shifts (day shift, swing shift, midnight shift) as well as weekends and holidays. Schedule changes may occur based on seniority and department coverage. The SCCCD Police Department is staffed on a 24-hour basis.

Organization
State Center Community College District (SCCCD) was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. SCCCD serves approximately one million people and 18 unified and high school districts in more than 5,500 square miles of urban and rural territory, including most of Fresno and Madera counties and portions of Kings and Tulare counties. SCCCD is governed by a seven-member board of trustees who represent seven trustee areas. Total district enrollment for the fall semester 2012 is over 34,000 students. SCCCD is a merit system district with over 2,300 faculty and classified staff represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The total operating budget for SCCCD in 2012-13 is $168 million.
Fresno City College, established in 1910, enrolls in excess of 22,000 students and offers more than 100 associate of arts and science degree programs and 60 certificate of achievement programs in vocational/occupational areas. Reedley College, established in 1926, is located in Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 6,200 students in a variety of courses and degree programs in occupational education and the arts and sciences. SCCCD operates three educational centers with a combined enrollment of approximately 8,300 students. The Willow International, Madera and Oakhurst centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees. In addition, the district offers occupational and technical training at its Career and Technology Center and the Training Institute.
