Financial Analyst - IT/Higher Ed

The Financial Reporting Analyst provides strategic leadership in financial management for Computing Services & Systems Development. This position provides executive level financial support to the CIO and CSSD Leadership team in financial analysis, evaluating cost controls, performing cost studies, and detecting trends. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing business recommendations based on financial and budget analysis for purposes of supporting CIO and operating decisions. A key aspect will be to determine ‘true costs’ and ROIs. The Financial Analyst provides financial leadership & involved in high-level projects that affect stakeholder units across the University.

 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Financial Planning and Analysis; IT expense management; budgetary support for IT cost centers; managing charge-out process, project estimates, capital appropriation (CAR) analyses & process facilitation; ad hoc analysis & presentations for senior management; enterprise IT reporting; industry benchmarking; and strategic data analysis.

 

As a Financial Analyst, this position:
- Supports CSSD Senior Management with budget and cost controls, financial analysis, and accounting procedures
- Prepares complex financial statements for the CSSD area budgets, reconciles expenses, executes cost studies and does financial analyses of budgets
- Implements policies and procedures that facilitate monitoring of budgets and reviews existing policies to recommend changes
- Develops cost models and budget/cost analysis
- Plans and executes internal audits

 

The incumbent must possess the following:
- Strong business background & excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with computerized billing systems & report writers
- Thorough understanding of cost accounting and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Dynamic leadership, analytical & strategic planning skills and a team-oriented, proactive, problem-solving outlook.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality as data is highly sensitive in nature
- Ability to partner with people at all levels of the organization & strong interpersonal, negotiating, and influencing skills
- Ability to maintain & improve consistent & sound business processes

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field such as Finance, Economics or Business or the equivalent in experience. A CMA or CPA license is preferred. Five to seven years’ senior level finance work preferred. Must have at least 5 years’ experience in accounting, auditing & budgeting. Solid working knowledge of software and database systems used in financial reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel & PowerPoint) is required. Tableau and Crystal Reports experience is preferred. A CMA or CPA license is preferred.
