The Plasma Physics and Fusion Science (PPFS) group at William & Mary invites applications for a post-doctoral research position, starting Summer of 2019. The position is initially for 2 years, renewable each year based on performance and funding availability.
The group’s research program is primarily at William & Mary, but is strongly interlinked with national and international fusion experiments. The post-doctoral researcher will conduct research in plasma physics with a focus on modeling of experimental plasma-edge dynamics. The modeling will consist of running and developing the SOLPS-ITER and/or BOUT++ with a focus on validation for integrated modeling purposes. The position will be based at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, but will require travel to national and international facilities. Depending on the background, experimental analysis and conducting experiments could be part of the research.
Applicants must have a PhD in Plasma Physics or a related field before the start of the position.
Preferred QualificationsBackground in plasma physics related to plasma edge physics in tokamaks or other relevant magnetic confinement devices. Prior experience with boundary fluid codes is desirable, but not a requirement for this position
