Research Coordinator🔍School of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford, California, United States📁Research📅Jul 15, 2019 Post Date📅83924 Requisition #TheNeurochoice Initiative in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University(neurochoice.stanford.edu) is seeking a full-time Interdisciplinary ResearchCoordinator to assist the Initiative’s three coordinating directors. TheResearch Coordinator will work most closely with the PI and the senior labmembers on internally-funded neuroimaging and behavioral research on neuralcorrelates of reward and addiction.


Primaryresponsibilities include: Maintaining collaborations with addiction treatmentfacilities (at the Veteran’s Administration), assist with recruiting and schedulingsubstance-use disordered and healthy control research participants, collectinghuman neuroimaging data (including MRI scanner operation, semi-structuredclinical interviewing, neurocognitive testing, and other behavioral datacollection), data processing and analysis, preparing reports for funding andregulatory agencies, supporting preparation and submission of publications,training undergraduate research assistants, coordinating the activities of ourpolicy network (i.e., the Stanford Network on Addiction Policy (SNAP)),coordinating interdisciplinary meetings and conferences, and maintaining groupemails and websites. This unique position is ideal for recent graduatesinterested in gaining experience at the intersection of research and policy to advanceto a research career.


This is a one year fixed term position with possibility ofrenewal upon funding availability.

Core Duties:
  • Prepare correspondence, documents and reports
  • Maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs.
  • Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed. Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed. 

  • Maintain the lab homepage and lab wiki.
  • Apply formulas and calculations to research data using basic statistical programs. Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.

    Education and Experience Required:
    Two yearcollege degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combinationof experience, education, and training.

    • Bachelor'sdegree in cognitive science, psychology, linguistics, computer science, or arelated field.
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants
  • Desired knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Basicunderstanding of research design and analysis (e.g., from Introduction toPsychology)
    • Fundamentalstatistical knowledge about how to analyze data (e.g., from Introduction toStatistics).
    • Strong interpersonal skills for working withhuman study participants.
    • Abilityand motivation to complete tasks efficiently and independently.
    • Experiencewith academic writing and publication.
    • Organizationand attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with statistics and computers,including the Linux operating system and programming/scripting (e.g., in shellscript, Python, R, or Matlab).
    • Experience with acquiring and analyzingneuroimaging data.
    • Skill in recruitment and testing of clinicalpatients.
    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
    • Strong attention to detail, quick learner, able to workindependently, demonstrate initiative, and organizational and interpersonalskills are essential.
    • Familiarity with statistics and computers, including theLinux operating system and programming/scripting highly desired.
    PriorfMRI experience and familiarity with AFNI strongly preferred

    Physical Requirements:
    • Frequentlyperform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation,lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
    • Occasionallystand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork orparts.
    • Rarelytwist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, andoperate foot and/or hand controls.
