Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Fellowship Advising, the Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships Assistant Director helps provide the leadership and administration of Colgate University’s Office of National Fellowships and Scholarships (ONFS).

Accountabilities

The Assistant Director will assist in the management of all office operations. These include :

Works closely with students to gain readiness and to apply to national fellowships

Fosters relationships with faculty and staff across the university to develop and oversee the recruitment and preparation of students applying for major fellowships

Advises and guides deliberations during faculty nomination committees.

Ensures effective and timely administration and tracking of all nominations and applications for nationally competitive fellowships, scholarships and grants.

Shares responsibility with the Assistant Dean for fostering student growth in line with fellowship and scholarship processes and is responsible for integrative and holistic advising of students and alumni, to include exploration, application, interview and selection and execution of grants, scholarships and fellowships.

Responsible for cultivating relationships, managing communications, recruit candidates and advise students by researching and promoting new and/or additional fellowship opportunities.

Mentor and assist in the writing of appropriate recommendation letters as they relate to fellowships.

Responsible for the communications processes that the office uses to promote national fellowships. This includes raising awareness of fellowship opportunities and inspirational student stories among all relevant constituencies.

Responsible for expanding outreach, promotion and access to fellowship opportunities.

Act as a liasion and catalyst in building and maintaining productive and effective relationships with fellowship foundations and other sponsoring entities.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

- A minimum of 3 years of related experience is required.
- Strong editing, verbal / written communication, time management, and
organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively.
- Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students within a university setting.

Preferred QualificationsEducation

A Master’s Degree is required.
A Ph.D. is preferred.
