Position Summary

This role serves as junior public relations and communications specialist for both the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and for the central NYU Office of Public Affairs. At Steinhardt, the candidate supports the departments of Art and Art Professions and Music and Performing Arts Professions. Within OPA, they write feature stories and work with the creative teams to produce various content (outside the scope of Steinhardt) for publishing on the web, social media, and in print publications. As a pro-active self-starter, the candidate provides high quality and deadline-driven writing, generates fresh ideas for a variety of communications projects, and actively seeks and identifies publicity and communications opportunities that enhance the clients' reputation, both internally and externally.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's degreePreferred Education:Master's degreeRequired Experience:3+ years news writing or public relations experience or equivalent combinationPreferred Experience:5+ years news writing or public relations experience in an academic environment.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to apply social media ideas and planning to public relations.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of New York City and the public relations industry. Use of press list related management technology.  Some elementary knowledge of principles of photography and video.
