Position Summary:

The Student Union, Davie Campus is seeking Student Operations Managers.

The Operations Manager (OM) position is involved in the day-to-day functions and use of the facility by students/patrons in the Davie Student Union. Operations Managers provide coverage and assistance within the Student Union, mainly in the lobby, computer lounge and study rooms. Operations Managers periodically conduct observation rounds throughout the Student Union to make sure all spaces, entrance/exits, office and room doors are secure and clean. Additionally, the Operation Manager position will assist with marketing and event programming of Student Affairs’ programs on the Davie campus such as WOW, Orientation, Campus Life, and other similar entities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • General to intermediate facility and reception area support, to include:
  • Reception area management.
  • Greeting students, faculty and staff and directing to the appropriate space in the facility.
  • Routine checks of space (study rooms, computer lab, restrooms and common areas).                       
  • Managing in-bound phone calls.
  • Distribution of approved flyers and brochures to university buildings. Changing signage to reflect upcoming programs/events.
  • Assist with programming and promotion techniques as part of the mission to inform and enthuse the FAU community about the Davie Student Union and Davie Campus Life resources and initiatives.
  • Completion of the Student Affairs CORE Training modules.
  • Other duties as assigned.                             

What You Will Do and Learn

Communication Skills:

  • Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to persons inside and outside of the organization.
  • Exemplify effective verbal and written communication through proper phone and email etiquette.
  • Assist with front desk reception and greeting of Davie Student Union visitors.
  • Completing university forms and documents effectively in relation to events, work orders and building logs.

Work Ethic & Professionalism:

  • Demonstrate personal accountability and effective work habits, e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, and time workload management, and understand the impact of non-verbal communication on professional work image.
  • Gain experience working in a professional environment (being punctual, adhering to dress code).
  • Prioritize of tasks with a focus on customer service.
  • Attend a 1-hour Title IX for Student Employees Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).
  • Complete 1-hour Owls Making Cents (Financial Literacy) Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).

Teamwork/Collaboration Skills:

  • Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints.
  • Interact with other departments on campus and understand how they contribute to the FAU community.
  • Planning, coordination, and execution of projects and events with co-workers, various university departments and community partners.

Critical Thinking/Problem Solving Skills:

  • Exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, make decisions, and overcome problems.
  • Assist with student parent, faculty, staff, employer and community member questions with a courteous and professional demeanor by utilizing knowledge of the department and the university.
  • Assisting students in the computer labs with common problems related to login, printing and copier jams.
  • Attend a 1-hour Bystander Intervention Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).
  • Complete 1-hour Kognito At-Risk Students Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).
  • Attend a 1-hour Emergency Management Training (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).

Leadership Skills:

  • Leverage the strengths of others to achieve common goals and use interpersonal skills to coach and develop others.
  • Attend one FAU leadership signature event per fiscal calendar.
  • Assist in the training of new staff once established in their role.
  • Attend a 1-hour Leadership Institute (Part of the Student Affairs CORE Training Program).
  • Engage and negotiate with students and staff.
  • Provide leadership on planning, coordination and execution of projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking undergraduate student with a minimum of six credit hours (or twelve if international) and a 2.0 GPA.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to success in this position.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.

$10 per hour
