The department of Campus Recreation is seeking a Director, Campus Recreation.
The Director of Campus Recreation will provide leadership, administration, risk management and fiscal accountability for the Department of Campus Recreation facilities, programs, services and operations. The director will oversee a staff of 9-13 professional staff, 200+ student employees, partner campus operations. The Director will report to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students in alignment with other Student Affairs Health and Wellness units. The position will provide vision and overall direction for the unit, establish long-range plans, program enhancements, and work collaboratively with the university community. The Director is a contributing member of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division. Specific responsibilities include:
Department Leadership
- Provide direction to team of 13-15 professional staff, 200+ student employees and partner campus staff.
- Leads program development and enhancement for intramural sports, club sports, group fitness, personal training, instructional programs, membership services, outdoor adventures, challenge course, aquatic programs, informal recreation and special events that serve FAU students and community.
- Support Healthy Campus 2030 initiative and establish collaborative relationships and joint projects to improve campus wellbeing.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration within Department, Division and greater University community.
- Support Divisional efforts and priorities.
- Responsible for department risk management and policy/procedure development.
- Serve as advisor to the Campus Recreation Advisory Board.
Strategic Planning / Assessment
- Accountable to Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and University Strategic Plan.
- Develop and execute department strategic plan and annual assessment plans.
- Set annual goals and submit annual report.
- Recommends and implements changes based on best practices and benchmarking.
Facility Management
- Responsible for the management of the Recreation & Fitness Center, Track & Field Complex, Henderson Recreation Fields, Ropes Course / Climbing Center, outdoor basketball & tennis courts, Davie Wellness Center, and Jupiter outdoor spaces.
- Develops and executes long range planning for facility enhancements and maintenance through the repair and replacement plans.
Financial Accountability
- Develops annual Student Government and Auxiliary budget requests of approximately $2.4 million. Administers operating budget and establishes revenue targets for the unit.
- Monitors budget status and ensures business processes are established, followed and maintained.
- Reviews and approves financial and business processes and requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
At least five years of experience in college setting working with diverse student populations required.
Must have the ability to work independently, plan and organize work efficiently and accurately, and communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels.
Strategic thinking and planning are essential skills. Ability to advocate and provide supporting evidence are necessary.
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with units inside the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and throughout the institution are required.
