Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Division of Online Learning extends the resources of the University through traditional and non-traditional instructional programs conducted on and off campus, and online for local, regional, statewide, national and international audiences. While most programs offer academic credit , others are non-credit and are open to interested persons regardless of educational background.

Our team is a diverse group of educators, program managers, project managers, graphic and video artists, programmers, editors, customer service personnel, and financial and registration staff, who work in close contact to achieve the highest quality learning experiences possible throughout all of our programs.

Position Summary

The Instructional Technology Consultant, under the direction of the Senior Director, is responsible for facilitating instructional design, research and support for the Division. The ITC duties include the development, delivery, research and support of graduate, undergraduate and non-credit online learning courses targeted specifically to online. Principal responsibilities include collaborating with UNCG academic department faculty and instructional technology staff in developing online courses and interfacing with campus units that support online education. Develop and maintain courses using tools to include WordPress, Adobe Captivate, and Canvas LMS. Serve as liaison to other academic units’ Instructional Tech Consultants to design and develop stand-alone online courses and blended on-campus courses; Work with the Division’s Dean, Executive Director, Senior Director, Assistant Directors, Director of Liberal Studies, Director of Summer Session, and Director of Marketing in market assessment, promotion of credit and non-credit online education courses.

The ITC will work as part of a team to develop instructional materials for online classes. The position will have the opportunity to work independently and will be expected to work independently on learning objects directly associated with online classes under development by the Division. The ITC should be capable of both directing instructional design elements for online courses, coordinating efforts across project teams, and ensuring educational standards are followed for all online classes in the development queue.

Minimum Qualifications

Proficiency in WordPress and Google Apps/Microsoft Office is essential. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), knowledge of Web authoring tools, Web development skills (e.g., HTML and CSS) and an awareness of Web-based tools and social media applications would be beneficial. Experience with project management software such as Basecamp, Wrike, or Microsoft Project is preferred. Master’s degree preferred
