$1,208 per credit hour of instruction.

  • Effective Reading Strategies (T 12:20-2:20//R 12:20-1:15)
  • College Reading (September Start; M-R 1:25-2:20)
  • ENG 105 (September Start; M-R 9:05-10:00)
  • ENG 105/109 (T 10:10-11:05//R 9:05-11:05 AND T/R 8:00-8:55)
  • ELA Elements of Writing (T 10:10-11:05//R 9:05-11:05)
  • ELA Effective Reading Strategies (MWF 10:10-11:05)
  • ENG 105 (MWF 11:15-12:10)
  • ENG 101/011 (T 12:20-2:20//R 12:20-1:15 AND T/R 10:10-11:05)
  • ENG 106 (T 2:30-3:25//R 1:25-3:25)


GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning in English for one of the Kirkwood campuses. The instructor must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division, and College policies and procedures.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate course syllabi and course handouts for each course taught.
  • Effectively organize and prepare learning activities for assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi.
  • Evaluate and record student performance/achievement on a regular basis and provide consistent, meaningful student feedback.
  • Participate in student learning assessment projects.
  • Participate in the development and/or execution of departmental tasks and projects in the area of instruction or instructional support.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate materials, equipment, and supplies to support the learning environment in established department courses.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Be able and willing to represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students as well as clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.
  • Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Manage a classroom setting in a way or manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies, and practice.
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making classroom decisions.
  • Be available on an as-needed basis for student questions and discussions regarding their performance.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
  • Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual who demonstrates leadership and collaborative work habits within the department.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public.
  • Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
  • Possess strong human relation skills. Get along with diverse personalities.
  • Prepare for, attend, and facilitate all classes and finals as scheduled.
  • Communicate in advance to staff, dean, and associate dean when class is cancelled, moved to another location (such as the library), or taught by someone other than you.
  • Send or submit your course syllabi to the office staff at the beginning of each semester.
  • Check rosters to ensure that students in your section are registered for your section.
  • Report attendance for financial aid purposes.
  • Respond to students and to their work in a civil and timely fashion.
  • Report midterm grades and final grades accurately and by the published deadlines.
  • Respond to staff questions about scheduling matters.
  • Respond to staff questions for book orders.
  • Respond to staff and administrative communications about individual students.
  • Respond with data for the department assessment projects.
  • Attend to your Kirkwood email each weekday.
  • Return office materials, such as books and staplers, in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in a community ethic of caring for classrooms, workroom, kitchen, and adjunct work spaces.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree with 18 credit hours in English.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Graduate coursework in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Familiarity with teaching college composition at all levels.
  • Teaching or writing center experience at a community college.
  • Demonstrated experience working with English Language Learners.
