About the College/Unit/Department

UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provide research, education, training and science-based outreach to assist Georgia in solving problems and realizing opportunities for its coastal and marine environments. By advancing research, education and training, and outreach, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant promote the economic, cultural and environmental health of Georgia’s coast and prepare citizens to become good stewards of coastal ecosystems and watershed resources.

UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant are units of Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia, supporting Georgia’s short- and long-term prosperity. With headquarters in Athens, Marine Extension and Georgia Sea grant also have the Marine Education Center and Aquarium and the Applied Shellfish Research lab on Skidaway Island and the Marine Extension Center located in Brunswick Georgia.

Administrative Financial Director for the Marine Outreach Programs (Marine Extension Service and Ga Sea Grant).

Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Administrative Financial Director serves and approves administrative duties in Director’s absence. Serves as a resource for the Director of Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, Associate Director for Advisory Services, Associate Director for Marine Education, Shellfish Laboratory Director, and Assistant Director of Georgia Sea Grant, as well as, faculty and staff of the unit. Serves on Marine Extension Service/Ga Sea Grant Leadership Committee as a team member. Serves as core of the unit’s operational matters.

Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Programs representative on committees (i.e., Public Service & Outreach Business Affairs member, Finance & Administration Business Affairs Advisory Forum member. Represents Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Programs’ Director as needed (i.e, Campaign Charities conference, MRR Review committee, etc.). Serves as Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s Service’s Automated Security Self-Evaluation Tools (ASSETs) representative (includes documentation of each coastal unit’s Hurricane Disaster Plan), be a resource for sensitive matter inquiries.

Directs and manages Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Service financial administration which includes, but not limited to: direct/manage the Marine Extension Service B-program budget, performs budget development, performance measure reporting to the Governor’s Office of Planning & Budgets, develop short- & long-range performance goals, monitor sponsored programs for compliance with OMB-21 guidelines, prepare financial statements, reconcile state/grant accounts, income monitoring and review,
training/reviewing/evaluating all administrative support staff on UGA policies/procedures, implement/manage workflow from coastal offices to campus, develops procedures for best business practices, establishes methods for record maintenance, designated “Sign off” for payroll system, designated approver in UGAmart, designated ePAR departmental representative, designated approver in eCheck Request system & serves as core of the Marine Extension Service’s financial matters.

Administrative financial reviewer of unit documents (i.e. travel and reimbursements, faculty appointment packages, etc. ) Designated with access to Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Budget and Financial Onesource systems.

Manages all human resources and personnel matters (i.e., hiring, employee relation issues, iPAWs, US Coast Guard Drug and Alcohol Departmental Representative for Research Vessel SEA DAWG – subject to USCG audit, etc.) for the Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant department.
