Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors and/or Masters in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

Position Summary

Provides administrative support to the Department Head in personnel and program administration, including preparation of faculty, staff and graduate assistant appointment and other personnel onboarding materials; works with the Office of Global Engagement processing visa and permanent residency application documents for faculty; assists with searches for new faculty and staff; schedules and arranges meetings and events; assists with curriculum proposals and changes; prepares Department reports and documents; and supervises other department support staff to ensure department-level work is completed. Supervises Administrative Associate I who assists with Department administrative work, Graduate Coordinator’s Assistant, Data Manager, and federal work study student workers.

Serves as back-up for other departmental staff and performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

1. Evidence of office management, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, supervisory and oral and written communication skills.

2. Knowledgeable and skilled in office practices and procedures.

3. Ability to work effectively and with discretion with administrators, faculty, staff and students with very limited supervision.

4. Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn University personnel policies, procedures and systems (UGA Jobs, Oneusg Connect/Peoplesoft, iStart, Elements, and I9 Express).

5. Thorough knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn the University, Graduate School and Department rules, regulation policies and procedures pertaining to graduate programs.

6. High level of computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet and database management).

Physical Demands

Sitting in front of computers for long hours and using the phone, fax, printers/copiers, various office equipment. Lift 20 pounds.
