This position works hourly as needed, up to 19 hours per week. Hours include Sundays 9:30am-5:30pm and Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical Office Assistant training and certification, or equivalent professional training and experience
Primary care, Urgent care, or Medical office/clinic experience, or other recent professional clinical work experience in ambulatory patient care
Experience working with diverse patient populations
Experience with electronic health record and practice management system
Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Outlook and Word

Position Summary

The Clinic Assistant provides direct supportive patient care to patients at the University Health Center under the direction of nurses and clinicians. The Clinic Assistant obtains chief complaint, brief history, appropriate vital signs, current medications and allergies. The Clinic Assistant documents patient information clearly and accurately using the electronic health record system. The Clinic Assistant recognizes abnormal findings and urgent problems and seeks appropriate assistance from nurse or clinician, anticipates special supplies and equipment required for the visit, assist clinicians with exams and treatments including sterile procedures, sterilizes instruments, operates the autoclave, and maintains exam room equipment and supplies.
The Clinic Assistant works closely with and collaborates with nurses, clinicians, patients, and families to support the clinic team. The Clinic Assistant reports to and is directly supervised by the Clinic Manager.
This is a non-benefits eligible position working up to 19 hours per week.

Ability to:

-recognize abnormal findings and urgent problems and seek appropriate assistance from nurse or clinician.
-anticipate special supplies and equipment required for the visit.
-assist clinicians with exams and treatments including sterile procedures.
-accurately sterilize and autoclave instruments, and maintain exam rooms and supplies.
-provide outstanding personalized customer service to patients and others.

Physical Demands

Active throughout the 8 hours work day performing typical busy medical office/clinic demands, including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, typing, bending, talking, listening, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

Recognizes abnormal findings and urgent problems and informs nurse or clinician. Ensures patient and staff safety at all times.
