The Department of Student Services at the McIntire School of Commerce is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and professional Assistant Director of Student Life (ADSL) to work collaboratively on the successful implementation of Student Life functions and educational services. In particular, the ADSL will be tasked with graduate program management, onboarding coordination for select student populations, providing support and structure to Commerce-related governing councils, and engaging students and McIntire community members through intentional communications and programming.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with faculty leaders to deliver academic and student support services for the M.S. in Commerce (MSC) program.
  • Coordinate program-related logistics, student communications, materials, resources, and programs
  • Demonstrate proficiency in academic requirements, course curricula, study abroad options, and co-curricular opportunities in order to maximize students’ academic experience
  • Coordinate and deliver student onboarding resources, including the New Student Portal, summer newsletters, summer events, etc.  for McIntire pre-experience graduate programs (MSC and MSA)
  • Plan and execute select orientation programs for MSA and MSC students
  • Actively encourage student involvement by identifying and introducing students to opportunities
  • Advise McIntire’s Graduate Commerce Council and partner with officers to develop and deliver high quality programming and support initiatives
  • Develop regular communications to share upcoming events and resources
  • Work closely with the Student Life team to manage programming initiatives, calendars, budgets, student and staff volunteer opportunities, assessments, and event promotion

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or equivalent field required
  • At least two years of relevant experience, preference will be given to applicants with more than two years of experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of and respect for the University of Virginia’s tradition of student self-governance
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, outstanding customer service, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as dictated by program schedules and student needs is preferred. 
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard and Collab), the Student Information System (SIS), Drupal, and Qualtrics preferred.
  • A valid driver's license

Occasional international travel opportunities with one of McIntire’s short-term study abroad programs will be expected.
