Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs. This position provides visionary leadership for and rigorous oversight of Academic Programs and Faculty Affairs. The AVPAA leads the University’s efforts to achieve innovative, high quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs and curriculum development consistent with the University’s mission and priorities. The AVPAA plays a pivotal role in assuring effective faculty performance review by creating and ensuring that Deans, Chairs, and faculty have adequate access to the range of services appropriate to support all aspects of faculty performance review. The AVPAA oversees the Faculty Affairs Specialist, and the Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position. that reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; competitive benefits program.
Minimum QualificationsA Doctoral degree or ABD required, preferably in higher education administration or education from an accredited institution with a major in curriculum and instruction. Excellent organizational, planning, communication and inter-personal skills. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and skill in the area of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications. Demonstrated ability to think “outside the box” and to lead and manage change in a positive and inclusive manner and work effectively with a diverse student and faculty population. Demonstrated experience in a higher education institution with a commitment to equity. Applicants should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in curriculum and instructional and/or information technologies management. Background and/or credit check may be required.
Preferred QualificationsPh.D., from an accredited institution with a major in higher education or curriculum and instruction; comprehensive understanding of distance education methodologies; demonstrated experience in working in or with curriculum development in academic distance education, preferably with university administration experience; combined five (5) years of higher education teaching and/or administrative experience; understanding of outcome assessment and continuous quality improvement strongly preferred.
